Assignment 10C: The Transformation

Describe the transformation that we faced during the whole sem in the Studio?
There were almighty changes that I've been through but the best one word that I can describe to illustrate my whole experience, is PRECIOUS.

Why do I say precious? It's used to describe everything I've been through the months in the Studio.
Firstly, it's the assignments which are getting tougher n tougher everytime.. Which I see, is very precious to gain as much knowledge as we can, since others cant.

2ndly, the lessons we learnt during the monday and friday talks that we don't even see externally in real life. It's alway the precious internal understanding that we must know. And it's a big Thank You to the studiomasters.

3rdly, the precious moments where studiomasters were there to help us during our toughest time..

and Lastly, the precious memories of me and my friends, I got to know them in just a nick of time, but our communication and bond will last as long as it will.

So the 10 words that I can say is:
The Quality of my life improved and in the mean time, expanded...

The Preperation for the XZBIT and Conference Part 1

At the end of our last assignment, the DIMENXION, which i THOUGHT it was the last one, we had to assemble the dome.. okie, totally forgotten about that.. @@!!!
firstly, the damaged or rejected struts are to be done again.. guess it's just "overcooked or not cooked" at all.

THe pictures are yet to come, but I guess I should update what's in my head right now before i forget all of them..

Anyway, all was going well, until when we realized that there was a "thief" among us... Why do i say so? coz our struts ad connectors started to go missing out of a sudden. And it's not a long term process, but it just went missing in within 15 minutes!! And those are struts that are already done!!
What great news!!!!
I guess the big lesson is still yet to be learnt by us, TRUST.

what about COMMITMENT? I've spent my time complaining, yes i do quite alot, but no doubt that my struts are all completed although it took me 2 days of work till late night..
rather then some others that I'm just too not willing to mention..

What's wrong if we're helping every1 out together? What's wrong if you're good at something and help some1 else in what you're good in instead of standing there and commenting and doing nothing?? Not even an initiative to find a solution but still, stick with your almighty problems..
Attitude man.. attitude..

Haix...........................................
10% anger
40% fun
50% TIREDNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Assignment 10: Dimenxion

I'm in ala Happy mood now.. ^^
coz i've finished my DIMENXION~!!!!!! that big mass ball that each and ever1 are required to do. Project by Tn Haji Rusli.. Very creative, mind challenging, and seriously tests ur patience.... again............ ==
our one and only last project from RUS101 studio... will definitely miss it after this... my design and non-design friends, from the time we spent doing bamboo as early as 7.30am till the time we spent in the studio till 1am and doing our masks till 4am.... this project has an internal message that tells you how u have transformed from the first day ur here and until the last day of the semester.. the way we think, the way we do things, the way we talk, and the way we act..

Here, we are to choose 5 of our best projects 2 be posted onto our dimenxion and i've chosen the projects that have changed me the most...

1) Natural Structure
2) Masks
3) Theaterette
4) Merdeka Event
5) Ibu Construction

i've put much effort in this, editing them in photoshop which took me hours and also printing them out in A3 sizes which robbed me of my money.. T.T i was wondering why i was putting so much effort in my Dimenxion when i realized that pictures do explain more than a thousand words and i just really like to look at them and start thinking back of the days.. after my project was completed i sat there and took a good look at it, and it really moved me... I really hope there's no damage done to my dimenxion during the exhibition and i really hope so too that i can bring it back... I really do wanna keep it...

We should bring out everywhere wherever we eat and go, so that every1 can see our story.. and be proud of our work in the studio.. maybe the students can say a few words about their work... i wanna hear their stories too... =)

The following are the processes for the setting up of my Dimenxion.. =)

My Dimenxion, My World..
RUS101, u'll just a memory after that.. a memory that i will forever bring wherever i am...

Soul Shift – Spread Factual Info To The World

Quantity Surveyor is one of important roles in the construction industry. He can defined as a guard member who prepared standardized schedules for a building project in which all of the construction materials, labour activities and the like were quantified, and against which competing builders could submit priced tenders. In preparing the tenders for projects, quantity surveyors must typically manages many unfamiliar elements, including practical construction methods, restoration technique and work sequences.Quantity surveyors must appreciate the full range of works to prepare a good tender document. By fulfilling the demanding requirements, the quantity surveyors enhance their professionalism on an area of growing cultural value and economic importance. Moreover, quantity surveyors responsible in preparation of the Contract Price Fluctuations Clause calculations in relation to increases in labour rates and inflation on construction materials from the date of tender to project completion. These cost adjustment can be calculated and negotiated before work commences.Besides, quantity surveyors also the financial managers of the construction team. They have been trained as construction cost consultants who have expert knowledge of costs, labour and material prices, constractual arrangements and even legal matters in construction field. Most of the time they need to seek measures to reduce high cost of construction projects and the attendant claims. They also be responsible for monitoring the project’s cash flow. Quantity surveyors are usually appointed at the beginning of any construction project to advise on costs and alternative forms and methods of construction which may be more cost effective. If a project sponsor wants a change in the project’s design or specification during construction, they will cost these changes and assist in the decision-making on whether to agree the changes. From time to time, they setting up and maintaining effective cost record control system and reporting. In general, they provide services of liaising and advising clients, contractors and consultants on the effect of cost on projects.

Quantity surveyors spread factual info to the world through their contribution. They are the accountants of the building profession - planning and managing costs of construction projects from initial calculation to the final figures. This profession is certainly not all hard hats and wellies. In fact the role of the quantity surveyor has changed so dramatically in recent years that the profession doesn't always answer to the name of quantity surveying anymore! No longer do quantity surveyors just measure and price work, they have a more strategic role. Nowadays the QS is involved at all stages of a project from preparing tenders and planning costs to preparing final bills of quantities; essentially, making sure projects are planned and completed to cost and quality, on time. The role of a quantity surveyor is to manage the costs relating to a building projects. This may include new builds, renovations or maintenance work. From early design costs to final figures, quantity surveyors seek to minimize the costs of the project and enhance value for money while ensuring that the project meets all legal and standard quality assurance requirements. Conducting feasibility studies to estimate materials, time and labour costs to meet the requirement of the clients. At feasibility stage quantity surveyors use their knowledge of construction methods and costs to advise the owner on the most economical way of achieving the standard requirements. They advise the client for a better procurement strategy besides identifying, analyzing and developing responses to commercial risks. For tendering, they do prepare and analyze costing while they also allocate work to subcontractors in the site when a building project starts. Apart from that, they also provide advice on contractual claims so as the client is clear about the claim. During the project, Quantity surveyors will analyzing the outcome and write a detailed progress report. After that, they will need to value the completed work and arrange the payment for those workers.

Besides that, quantity surveyors will maintain awareness of the different building contract in current use. Building contract is a very important document, which contain all details of the construction project including the financial breakdown and construction time schedules. This document will ensure that clients are getting exactly what they have paid for in their new home or commercial property.

As a professional quantity surveyor, we must understand the implications of health and safety regulations. This is important as employers have legal obligations to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. As an employee, they have rights to work in a safe and healthy environment. Employer has a 'duty of care' to look after, as far as possible, the health, safety and welfare while employees are at work. They should start with a risk assessment to spot possible health and safety hazards. They have to appoint a 'competent person' with health and safety responsibilities. This is usually one of the owners in smaller firms, or a member of staff trained in health and safety in larger businesses.

Next, quantity surveyors must have strong financial, analytical, interpretive and teamwork skills.Teamwork has become an important part of the working culture and many businesses now look at teamwork skills when evaluating a person for employment.

Quantity Surveyors are responsible to clients, users and the people. For clients, quantity surveyors seek to minimize the cost of materials but they still need to fulfill the instructions given by clients and at the same time give some advises to them. Apart from that, quantity surveyor are responsible for the health and safety, and fulfilling the needs and comfort of users. As an example, they need to protect users by using good quality but economical materials. They do need to make sure that the materials used will not bring side effects to the users so that the comfortability and healthy problems of users can be protected. Making decisions will not only based on clients and users but also seeing the impact to the society and community. Quantity surveyors should be more rational and think wisely, not only depend on clients and users request but have to consider about the community and society .

The thought of quantity surveyor’s ( QS) job is all about calculation is wrong. Instead , QS have to advise client or architect on procurement strategy and prepare tender document and contract document for the construction project . In the process of preparing tender or contract , few criteria have to be taken concern by the QS , for example undertaking costs analysis for repair and maintenance the building. Better qualities material use for construction project will actually lower down the maintenance fees in the future .Furthermore , a professional QS should be able to identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks. The construction period is long. Meanwhile , economic recession may occur which would lead to the fluctuation of the price for construction material. Hence the cost promised by the QS may be inaccurate. it is crucial to make sure that the fluctuation of price will not affect the construction project progress. Lastly , QS have to writing a detailed progress reports which will analyse the outcome of the project. By valuing the completed work, QS have to arrange the payments to be done.

The problems that often faced by QS are most of the business owners are cutting the professional fees which lead to encouraging unreasonably low tender bidding. Many QS firms are thus suffering from “cut-throat” competition instead of creation of value for their clients. Besides , professional consultancies are very traditional and have very narrow mindset. Many industry leaders are still focusing on basic skills, which could be replaced by computers in 10 years time.

We cant foresee the future hence a professional QS must have strong financial, analytical, interpretive and teamwork skills which will understanding the implications of health and safety regulations but not just doing their job only.

What the society is lack of in their minds is the truth that is out there. “We are fast asleep in a box”, the closest related issue to what the society is like now. We are behind of what we should know of the world either politically, economically or socially. The problems that we are facing in our common lives are so minor but we are already making it a big fuss. Lacking of free thinking minds, are we ready for the mind shift and soul shift if the worst were to act upon us? Are we willing to accept what is about to come? Most of us are still in our own superstitious world, sitting there waiting and hoping that the mercy of the Gods will act upon us. But we are wrong. The big soul shift will happen if we are willing to open up our minds. We ourselves must help one another and together, we experience the great mind shift of our own. Realizing that the truth is to come and accepting the fact that we must stay together as one. Together, we must move and thus we will know what to do as the time come.

What should we do then when the time really comes? Based on given facts we must prepare ourselves for the worst. As we can’t expect what is waiting for us in the edge, but we know our own powers and specialties. We are created special, every one of us. Each of us contributes to the situation. So what are we acting upon? Is it because of fear that brought us together? Or is it because we have realized and experienced the soul shift that will harmonize the society? We are lack of facts. I believe, with facts, we can inspire people in many ways. The world is a stage and we are the actors, decide your ending of your story. Every choice is in our hands.

Assignment 8A:Big Dome (Part) Assembly

The Continuation Preparation for

End
Of
The
World~~!!!

And so sometime the other day we recieved orders to exhibit our sectioned domes around the school.. as i'm in section 3, according to the chart where we can find it in the RUS101 website, it will be right outside of E48B which is where we did our theaterrete performance.
We have to transport our bamboo all the way from Dataran Merah. @@!!!
anyway the bamboos are getting lighter because they're getting dryer and dyer but there are STILL heavy.. ==!!

and there were blood shedding all around.. thank goodness there weren't any vampires around coz it'll be their bloody part.. xD careful guyss~! =)
and we worked ourselves up to exhibit our struts...

after done exhibiting it we went home.. but on the nex day, 1b asked us to transfer it back to the place where we did our Youth Jam rehersal because there's been complaint on the bamboos being all over the place..
It seems that the preparation of the Big Leap is still unacceptable to some other ppl.. But after this assignment i truly understand what 1b meant and is ready to accept whatever Big has in hand for us and i'll try my best to help... =)

BIG (Bamboo Interest Group)

2day, 4th October 2010, Studio RUS101 had a big discussion about BIG. xD
Though many ppl did not attend this event but i managed to get my big lazy butt up and appeared anyway..haha.. Kinda interested about what the discussion will come to in the end..

1b began with some introduction about BIG.. the role of bamboo and their advantages.. the reason why they chose bamboo:
  • stronger choice to built and environmental friendly future
  • incredible strength (3 times stronger than steel)
  • most sustainable resource
  • helped in poverty
  • survived the atomic bomb
  • reverses the effect of global warming
And this is asked of us; work on bamboo so as to produce something that shall meet all the above six points, hence making the leap to 2012. What can we do?

one of the effort has been clearly shown by us, the RUS 101 studio students which have been working on one of the biggest and toughest project ever.. !!
With our great effort and sheading of sweat we worked together as each of us were to prepare 2 or 1 struts each for the assembly of the Ibu.
I hope this is just a test coz if this Ibu were to be used on the real day during 2012, then i wouldn't even dare to go in it. I'd rather get killed by nature then get killed by my own creation. That's embarassing isn't it?? @@

Anyway, look at the other side of the story. I realized that when we were building this "Massive Monster" I have seen and heard many acts and ideas. Most of them, sadly to say, NEGATIVE.. sad huh... what do they say? they said "It's just impossible... The thing is just too huge... I wouldn't go in it if it was even successfully assembled up.. 1b must be crazy!! Gila-lah project ni... Aiya, simply do only laa, who cares, they won't check wan laa.. Lazy already laa..."

Truth be told, just imagine if each and every one of the student had this kind of mind and thinking during the process of this project, then whatever is build out will just be a failure.. none is willing to give and sacrifice their hardwork and effort to make this BIG project a success. Then, what are we? Are we awakening as One? or are we just One in the awakening? What happened to looking to the future? Just put a lil bit more effort to make something that you want perfect isn't going to hurt you. But yet, when we finished our struts, there are some who are satisfied, and some who are not. We know ourselves. Aren't we guilty of ourselves? Of putting our lazyness in control over our mind? A project that may become a big success in the future, thrown away just because of our ego-ness and our immature and childish mind and thinking? Once again, awakening as One? or maybe just not?

Maybe, just maybe, we are lack of believe.. We believe in our friends more than ourselves.. Instead, we follow their heart more then we follow our own.. Faith, the strongest power that can even move mountains, are just not fully matured in our hearts and minds.. But instead, our selfishness had taken over.. Maybe we should ask ourselves why are we the chosen one to accomplish this mission? Why not others? Why RUS101 and why it's students? So I guess it's fate that brought you here? Or is it You that made the decision? Bear in mind that whatever decision we had made for ourselves, we are responsible for it and responsibility are not for children..

What I learnt today? Is about the needs of one another.. The power of love and believe among each other.. We must believe in each other's work as we assemble our project. Believe that they have done well and put all their efforts in.. Have faith and courage to face what's coming for us in the future..
We dont decide the future, God does.. Everything is in His hands.. It's just up to us weather to accept it or not.. So, are you prepared for the worst? Or should i say, are you prepared to face the better future?

Assignment 7: Big Dome

Busy
Preparing
for
the
End
of
the
World
laaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

*sweat*

but

=)

This is the biggest project yet that i've ever been through in HBP..
it requires our stamina, mentality and patience...
The many big bamboos arrived last week and we've to take 2 struts some 1 each.
and prepare them. it's like we're given our own responsibility for our own part.
i'm in section 3 and our X-men is Mac.

The polypipe that's prepared by the school was also a big problem.
It's acting as the connector and i din realize connector need big work too..
the sawing wasnt done by us though.. thnkx workshop man ^^

and there were also some refreshments after our hardwork.. =) thnkx to whoever that prepared this

nopez i wasnt in a good mood.. @@!!!! it seriously tested my patience and i really learnt superbly alot in this...
the thing i'm worried bout now is how the hell we're gonna put them up together?? zzzzz.. i dun wanna die so early.. ='( i love my family and my friends... =(

and one of the biggest problem is that there's only 1 gas stove.. ==!!!! and the gas released is really making me sick!! apart from getting muscle pains after this project, we also get bran damage.. @@
Now wad's left is the assembly of the dome..
everyone did a great job.. hopefully when all of the struts work out and were a great success den we can build up the dome successfully...
GANBATEH RUS101~!!! GANBATEH 1B~!! XD
